Mixed feelings about anonymity

So.

Friday morning, as I was spending some time on the computer, I noticed that I had my very first not-so-nice anonymous comment on a WriterChic post. Apparently, in response to my open letter post, someone thought it necessary to suggest I "get a life." Duly noted. I'll get right on that. (For what it's worth, I deleted the comment. I don't need to look back in years to come and remember even one more negative thing.)

So, later in the weekend, I, again, noticed an anonymous comment. This one wasn't so blatantly venomous; it was merely, I'm assuming, another mommy, "introducing" herself, and suggesting I try to rock Seth before nap time to calm him.

In response to her, thanks for noticing Seth's chair. We love it, and can't wait to use it with our new son in August. Yes, we use the rocker daily with Seth, although not usually at nap time. We have been having perfect success with an afternoon routine that leads into Seth going down "unassisted" for his afternoon rest. However, if MY schedule has greatly disrupted his nap time routine, he tends to not sleep, but rather, play with his toes, sing to himself, and, unfortunately, chew on his crib rails. Hence my request to him in my "letter." Please rest assured that Seth gets a daily dose of both mommy and daddy loving in that rocker.

Now, that all said....

I have Sitemeter. I know how many people are reading, when they're reading, how they get here, how long they stay, and the locale from which they're logging in. (For example, my second to last visitor, per what I just checked, was from Oregon -- waves frantically to Kendra!!!!) So, I know you're out there. Please say hi, in "person." I'd love to get to know my readers -- you don't have to send a DNA sample or anything.... I'd just like to know who you are, and maybe why you're reading. I've made some of my BEST friends through the Internet and blogging. Maybe you, oh anonymous reader, are destined to be one of them...?

Hi :) We've unofficially met via the blogosphere, and our lives are an open book on my blog... Just wanted to let you know I read you because A) I'm a blog slut and your posts are interesting :) and B) I'm rooting for your long healthy pregnancy!!!

I think I found you through Stacy's blog many months ago. I live near Chattanooga.

I have yet to get a mean anonymous comment, but I know I will someday, and will hate it! (Don't go leave me one just to give me a heart attack!) :)

Hi. This is AB&TB from the Bump. I have been reading for a number of months now. You know me and my story, but to add some more, I live in Tucson, AZ and started blogging last summer just before Linc was born. I rarely comment on others blogs, and never leave a negative comment. I am sorry that you had one come up on your last entry.

You know me...I borrowed your clothes and was your French class partner in college. I called you when you were in the hospital with Seth and now we are pregnant at the same time. (Hormonal me is trying not to freak out because my husband didn't run over when I told him the baby was moving. Trying to tell myself it is NOT because he is not as excited as I am or because it is "just" a second boy...TMI?)Anyway, I read every post of yours and love your comments on mine.

Hey friend,

Hope all is well in Nashville. I was sad to have not run the Country Music 1/2 Marathong... but I would have been nowhere near ready. Not sure I will even be ready at the end of May.

Hope you guys are well...

~ Stacy

I don't remember how I found your blog (through Stacy's I think). I read because you are honest and I like that. I think the comment about "getting a life" is a little ironic. I'm pretty sure that anyone who reads people's blogs just to leave nasty comments might need to "get a life". Ignore the nasty comments and keep being open and honest because this reader likes it! :)

yeah, monica, get a life! because raising seth, gestating seth's brother, fighting off burglars, recovering from illness, and being generally fabulous are JUST not enough.

:) you know i love ya.

Okay, I'm busted! Time to fess up except I truly don't remember how I found your blog. I know I have been following for quite some time and I just love the way you write...so honest. My daughter is your age and she writes pretty honestly, too! She writes 2 blogs, one of her own and she keeps one for my best friend who is 35 and has stage IV colon cancer. You should check it out because we believe we are witnessing a miracle! www.stephsgonnawin.blogspot.com
Now that I'm busted I will leave "nice" comments from time to time! Thanks for sharing!!!

Ahhh...so it annoyed you too.

Don't remember how I found your blog, but am sure glad I did. Praying faithfully for itty bitty to grow and for a safe and healthy pregnancy. AND praying that the police are able to recover AT LEAST your computers so you can get your pictures back...and basking in your prayers for me that carry me through the days I don't have the strength to pray for myself.

Thanks for the waves!!!!!!!! =)

I first started reading your blog when I joined the PL/MC board on the nest. I think I may have commented once or twice, but I am a loyal reader :)

Hey there..you know I've been reading...and I check for updates all the time. I, too, had an anonymous comment that I thought was somewhat rude: "what's the point of this blog?". How can I respond if I don't know who you are? HA! Anyhow, just wanted to say hi and I'm glad to hear that things with Seth and his new baby brother are going well, even if everything else is touchy right now. Take care!

Hi! It's kelly aka kelly&marty. I'll admit to reading and not always commenting, so if Sitemeter tells you someone from Iowa's reading, it's probably me! Just making sure you're ok! Loving the blog!

Oh, and I may steal your request to your readers to leave a comment so that you can get to know them. I've had some hits from far away places and would love to get to know those people. Thanks for the idea!
