Baby Steps

I’m getting some questions about BG’s nursery, so….

Yes, we’ve started working on it.

Yes, the crib is back up.

Yes, we’re using Seth’s orange chair.

Yes, I’m using my Pottery Barn Bedding.

Picture 001
No, I don’t feel like we’ve made any progress.

Because I hate, hate, hate the BEFORE that always has to come, well, before, the AFTER.

Especially when the BEFORE looks like this:

BG nursery progress 004
Once the furniture was out of the nursery and into Seth’s room, I moved the crib and changing table to their new positions in the room, and decided to tackle the closet first.

So I began un-toting and unpacking SO. MUCH. BLUE. STUFF.  Sorting what is gender neutral enough to keep (i.e. white onesies), what is getting sold (I hope) at the March consignment sales (i.e. full Nautica crib bedding), what will go to my dear friend Sara (i.e. receiving blankets, unopened pacis, barely-worn sleepers, etc.), what is sentimental enough to be preserved and stored for years to come.  And let me tell you, it is a LOT of work to flip genders.

Ugh.

So, the nursery is a disaster.  But I’ve come to accept that, for now, and just consider it “under construction,” and allow myself some time and space to try out some things.

Which brings me to the issue of fabric.

Namely, the fabric I want to use to make her curtains.

If you remember, I had my grandma make Seth’s nursery curtains, and I LOVED them.

And I want something as cute and custom for BG.

So, here are the current options (sorry, the fabric is wrinkled):

mix butterfly  butterfly

floral

I apologize in advance for the quality of this next pic, but I wanted y’all to get an idea of how the fabrics play with the other textiles in the room (the bumper, and the material the crib sheets will be):

And here is another lousy composition photo of the fabrics at the window.  Now, granted, they will be lined with room-darkening fabric, too, so don’t be too swayed with how the light filters through each print, m’kay?

I have my favorite, I think.  But here’s where I’d really appreciate your opinions.

Please keep in mind that pink and green are the dominant colors in the room, given the wall color and the bedding pieces, so I really want to incorporate the orange, tastefully, where I can, since I don’t want the chair and ottoman to look completely out of place.  Also, I plan to do full-length drapes, in two panels, for the one window, no valance.  And last thing to note…..you’d have to click on the picture of the bumper to see it in detail, but there is some blue in the flower embroidery.

So……go for it, Interpeeps.  Tell me what you think.

The sooner the fabric is chosen for the curtains, the sooner I can place my order with Kim.  Oh, wait, never mind.  BG needs a color palette AND a name.

(Minor detail, right?)

You have made some good progress. I like the butterfly pattern for the curtains, Grandma will do a great job and I know she will be excited to do them. The pink wall hangings look great.

I love all your ideas!!! Her room is going to be so cute! My favorite fabric is #1. I think it incorporates the orange the best.

I like the third one, with the jumble of flowers.

What fun! I love them all, but the 1st one is my favorite!

I like the first one...definitely the first one. Everything is going to look so great when it is put together. I might want to come and live in the room.

By the way...when and where is the consignment sale? I would love to come!

I love the scheme of the room! My favorite is the first, but I think any of the three would work really well.

I like the third one the best. The one hanging to the far right on the window. I love all the bright colors in the nursery!

Last one FOR SURE! I like the first one too - NOT a fan of butterflies!

1st, 3rd, 2nd

You are such a great decorator and I can't wait to see this nursery when it is done!

At first, I loved the first one. But seeing it "in" the room, I'd go with #2.

But hell, I am NO designer at all.

I know I'm in the minority, but my favorite is the butterflies...my 2nd choice would be the 3rd one :) I love the pink flowers hanging on her wall! :)

Papa said the butterfly pattern. But what ever you choose I'm sure it will look great.

I like the first and third. I think the third(floral) is my fav. I have your package ready to go, just have to get to the post office!

I liked the third one because it had pink in it but tied in the orange chair. (The first one hanging in the window)

I love #1 the best, but I think they're all beautiful. Who's the designer on those fabrics? Tessa has her crib bedding and valances made from Amy Butler fabrics, and I love them.

I like #1. I think it pulls the orange in the best and looks the best against the wall.

Third fabric is definitely my favorite! I love the other choices too, but for your baby girl's nursery, I think "3 is the best. :)
Exciting exciting!

I like the first fabric choice you posted, then the third and finally the second. The first one is too pretty to me. *lol*

I love that chair you have in the room - where di you get it?!

I can't decide. I love #1, but the picture with them hanging in the window, #3 totally jumped to my fav! What if you trimmed it with brown or the light blue? They are all very fun and festive!

The butterflies are my favorite, and they go best with the bumper.

I love #2, #3 is a close runner up!

I agree with Kimberly- #1 is my fav. except for by the window- then I like #3 better- can't you use both? Pretty please? ;)
I'm curious who these fabrics are by too, one of them looks like Heather Bailey, but I can't tell.
And as for the name, Eloise wasn't named until after we saw her (first time we did that) so it's ok if she's baby girl- though it does put a kink in all the monogramming.

I love, love the third one but they are all beautiful. The nursery is going to look amazing.

Jenn said...

#3 because of the big orange flowers. All are adorable though! Have fun!

I LOVE the first one and the third one is my second favorite!

I like #1. It's the most interesting and incorporates shots of orange. Have fun with the decorating. Can't wait to see pics of the finished look.

I like them all...I think maybe the butterflies are my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of them! I think it's going to look so cute. Can't wait to see the finished product! =)

I like the 1st one!!

I like the First, then the third, then the second. =] I think the first one has enough orange in it to make the chair and ottoman look like they belong. But the other ones aren't too far behind.

Amanda said...

Definitely the third one! I can't wait to see her room when you are done.

Blessings,
Amanda
